Born in Castellamare di Stabia (Naples) in 1967. Attended acting school at the Stabile di Torino directed by Franco Passatore and also at La Bottega Teatrale in Florence directed by Vittorio Gassman. Between 1986 and 1997 he starts his career as an actor working with directors such as Ronconi, Castri, Patroni Griffi, De Capitani. In 1998 he makes his debut as a director and in 2001 is awarded the Ubu prize for the project ‘Shakespeare e oltre’ made up of Othello, Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet by William Shakespeare. A work that was previous to another trilogy on Jean Genet consisting of Stretta sorveglianza (2001), I Negri and Querelle (2002) and one on Pier Paolo Pasolini made up of Pilade (2002), Porcile and Bestia da stile (2004). All of these shows have been presented with great success in France, Germany, Austria, Spain and Portugal. In 2004 Antonio Latella moves to Berlin. The year 2005 sees the debut of La cena de le ceneri by Giordano Bruno (ANCT Award), in 2006 he is called to direct one of the workshops at the École des Maîtres, in 2007 Studio su Medea wins the Ubu Award for best show of the year. In 2008 he takes to Colonia in Germany the show La trilogia della villeggiatura by Carlo Goldoni and in Turin the project Non essere – Hamlet’s portraits, a project of 11 shows lasting about 1h each. In 2010 he presents the shows [H] L_Dopa and Don Chisciotte; he then is called to take over the artistic direction of the Nuovo Teatro Nuovo in Naples for the season 2010/2011. By 2011 he is the founder of stabilemobile compagnia Antonio Latella, through which he has conducted shows such as: Die Nacht kurz vor den Wäldern (Berlin 2011), Elettra – Oreste – Ifigenia in Tauride (Novosibirsk 2012), C’è del pianto in queste lacrime (Naples, 2012), Francamente me ne infischio winner of the Ubu Award for Best Direction (2013) Die Wohlgesinnten (Wien 2013). In 2013 he makes his debute with the show Il Servitore di due padroni from Carlo Goldoni for the Emilia Romagna Teatro, and then presents Natale in casa Cupiello by Eduardo De Filippo for the Teatro di Roma (2014). In 2015 he is called to present his monologues on A. H. Caro George, MA in the Theatre performance section of the Venice Biennal. In 2016 he presents Santa Estasi for Emilia Romagna Teatro, a marathon composed by 8 shows on the Atridiì’s saga that will be awarded with the Ubu prize as Best Show of the Year and Best Young Actor (to the whole cast equal). Always in 2016 he presents Oedipus for Theater Basel. In 2017 he presents Pinocchio for Piccolo Teatro in Milan and Cinderella, the opera by Gioacchino Rossini, for Theater Basel. Aminta, his latest show, made its first appearance on November 8th in Macerata, at the Lauro Rossi Theatre. His shows have been hosted in some of the most prestigious international theatres and festivals. Some of which are: Piccolo Teatro in Milan, Teatro Argentina in Rome, Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Carignano in Turin, Volksbühne Berlin, Berliner Festspiele, Radialsystem Berlin, Schauspielhaus Köln, Schauspielhaus Wien, Odéon Théâtre de l’Europe Paris, Théâtre National Populaire Villeurbanne, Comédie de Reims, Centro Cultural de Belém (Lisbon), Meyerhold Center in Moscow. Among the festivals: La Biennale di Venezia, Festival di Avignone, Festival di Salisburgo, Wiener Festwochen, Romaeuropa, Spielzeit’europa, 11° Union des Théâtres de l’Europe, Festival Theaterformen di Braunschweig/Hannover, Festival Grec di Barcelona, Festival internazionale Scènes Etrangères di Villeneuve d’Ascq, Napoli Teatro Festival Italia, Festival Svjetskog Kazalista di Zagabria, Territory Festival Moscow, De Internationale Keuze Van de Rotterdamse Schouwburg, Sibiu International Theatre Festival. Venice Biennale chaired by Mr. Paolo Baratta appointed Mr. Latella as artistic director of the Theater section for the four-year term 2017-2020.
